“Stay mellow-Maddie! :P”

As I prepare to enter the professional world, I have taken time to reflect on the values I want to carry with me, building upon the strengths I already possess. One of the core traits I have developed throughout my life is an opportunistic mindset.

I have always viewed experiences in two ways: either as successes or as opportunities to learn more about myself. This perspective has allowed me to maintain a sense of optimism and confidence in all aspects of my life.

A pivotal example of this mindset is when I began ballet classes in eighth grade. For context, most ballet dancers start training around the age of five to ensure their bodies develop in ways that support the art form. Joining as a tween in a class with much younger students was undoubtedly challenging. However, I embraced the situation with humility, understanding that every journey has a starting point. I remained focused on growth and improvement, often asking my instructor for constructive feedback. This openness to critique, combined with discipline, allowed me to progress rapidly and eventually perform at the highest level within my studio by the time I graduated high school.

Another formative experience has been my work as a restaurant server over the past three years. Serving requires adaptability and composure, especially in high-pressure environments. It’s a role where one either “gets it” or doesn’t. My ability to remain calm amidst the chaos—juggling food orders, bar drinks, and multiple tables—has honed my skills in multitasking, collaboration, and crisis management. This role has taught me the importance of being proactive rather than reactive. I’ve developed confidence in my ability to handle challenging situations, knowing that each moment will pass, and I have the resilience to navigate whatever comes next.

These experiences have shaped my outlook and prepared me for future challenges. I am confident that the adaptability, discipline, and positive mindset I have cultivated will serve me well in my professional journey.

Of course, it is important to remember that life is fun and other should know this too - that is why I’ve always signed my guests’ receipts with “Stay bananas - Maddie :P”
